Root canal treatment is the removal of the nerve inside a tooth that has a cavity reaching all the way to the nerve. When the cavity reaches the nerve it results in pain to pressure, discomfort to hot or cold liquids, and infection or abscess.
Restorations such as deep fillings, crowns placed over a cracked teeth, or trauma to teeth (e.g.: skateboard, bicycle, car accident) can also cause the nerve to get infected and hurt.
